The Department of Justice hands on in the Wire Act battle. In the latest news here is what is happening. An appeal of the ruling of the New Hampshire District Court, which states that the Wire Act only refers to sports betting and does NOT include online betting, the Department of Justice with just over 45 minutes to spare before time expired, filed an opening brief. The Department of Justice believes that this is not a case that should be handled in court. They firmly believe that there is no immediate threat to the New Hampshire Lottery. It was the 2018 Wire Act that led to this ongoing case in the first place. The position of the U.S government is that the Wire Act should cover all forms of online betting. They actually state that in reality the Wire Act is no more than advice from one department to another to put it in laymen’s terms. On Jan 20th the deadline for the New Hampshire Lottery passes and the appellants will have the opportunity to respond. Until then we will have to just wait patiently.
